Our School Curriculum

The Curriculum at Trekenner

At Trekenner Primary School, our curriculum is designed to inspire, challenge, and support every child to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally. Rooted in the National Curriculum for England, our approach is inclusive, creative, and responsive to the needs of our mixed-age classes and our rural Cornish community.

Our Vision

We believe that every child deserves a rich, broad, and balanced education that prepares them for life in modern Britain while celebrating their individuality and local identity. Our curriculum is underpinned by our core CARE values:

  • Connect – building strong relationships with each other, our community, and the wider world.
  • Achieve – striving for personal and academic excellence in all we do.
  • Respect – valuing ourselves, others, and the environment.
  • Explore – fostering curiosity and a love of learning through meaningful, engaging experiences for all.

Our Approach

  • Inclusive and Adaptive: We tailor learning to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, EAL, and those working at greater depth. Our mixed-age structure allows for flexible grouping, peer support, and personalised challenge.
  • Rooted in Place: We celebrate our Cornish heritage and rural setting through local history, geography, and environmental learning, helping children develop a strong sense of identity and belonging.
  • Outdoor Learning: Children are outdoors every day, whatever the weather, and take part in regular outdoor learning sessions that enhance wellbeing, creativity, and connection to nature.
  • Broad and Balanced: Our curriculum includes all National Curriculum subjects, enriched with the arts, sports, PSHE, and opportunities for spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.

Our Impact

We aim for all children to leave Trekenner as:

  • Confident, curious learners who are ready for the next stage of their education.
  • Kind, respectful individuals who contribute positively to their community.
  • Resilient, reflective thinkers who embrace challenges and celebrate success.
